Motherhood with Braveness is a book about real motherhood, lived far from idealized images and much closer to everyday life. Drawing from her own experience, Natália Elias builds an intimate narrative through chronicles that move across pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and the daily challenges of raising a daughter while also redefining herself as a woman. There are no promises of ready-made answers, definitive manuals, or perfect solutions. What exists here are questions, insecurities, discoveries, and the constant attempt to balance love, exhaustion, guilt, and affection within routine life. With a direct and welcoming voice, the author invites readers to see motherhood as it truly is: intense, contradictory, transformative, and often lonely.
Throughout the book, Valentina is not only a daughter but also a mirror, a lesson, and a presence that reshapes everything around her. The chronicles address the changing body, the fears that follow, the relationship with the outside world, social judgment, silent loneliness, and a love that grows even when everything feels out of place. Motherhood with Braveness is a book for mothers, future mothers, and anyone who wishes to better understand this deeply complex territory. More than telling the story of a woman and her daughter, the book offers recognition. Recognition of feelings many experience but few say out loud. A book that does not romanticize, but embraces. That does not instruct, but shares. And that reminds us, on every page, that motherhood is also a process of becoming another version of oneself.
Author’s Note: This was my first book, my first adventure in the world of writing. Overall, it is a compilation of everything I experienced with Valentina from the moment I discovered I was pregnant to postpartum depression and our move to Spain. Although it is a light read, I aim to portray how the world of motherhood is not a “soap opera,” as many people think, but rather a challenging process that demands something from mothers every single day.
